The partnership started in 2023. The main partners are the CMA Microeconomics Unity, the Business School, the Department of Economics and the DREAM Research Centre.

2025 CMA Durham Workshop

The Competition and Market Authority’s (CMA) Microeconomics Unit, the Department of Economics and Durham Research in Economic Analysis and Mechanisms (DREAM) organise a workshop on the topic of “Productivity, Business Dynamism and Market Power“, that takes place on 20-21 November 2025 at the Durham University Business School. The workshop is designed to facilitate a dialogue between academic researchers and policymakers trying to understand what makes an economy competitive, innovative and productive.

The workshop features a keynote speech by Jonathan Haskel (Imperial College Business School).

Memorandum of Understanding

Professor Karen O’Brien and Dr Mike Walker, the Chief Economic Adviser to the CMA, signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the Darlington Economic Campus on Thursday 27 July, 2023. 

The partnership of the University with the Microeconomics Unit (MU), a dedicated unit within the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) at the UK Government’s Darlington Economic Campus (DEC), will play a pivotal role in advancing open-access economic research and informing evidence-based policy. The main partners from the University are the Durham University Business School, the Department of Economics and the DREAM Research Centre
